Ghana’s interests will be given priority as the Lands Minister establishes new guidelines for mining companies.

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has made it clear that he will be reluctant to grant mining leases to businesses that do not actively support the growth of the nation. On Friday, February 21, 2025, in Accra, this announcement was made at a meeting with Goldfields Ghana Limited’s management.

The Minister underlined the government’s dedication to directing the profits from mining towards local content capacity building and community development.

“We want mining companies to respect and understand their obligations to host communities,” he emphasized.

Goldfields was recognized as an essential partner in Ghana’s mining industry by Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.

He urged the business to make its local content efforts stronger, saying that they are crucial to converting the advantages of mining into real gains for local communities.

The minister gave Goldfields assurances regarding the Goldfields-Anglogold mining joint venture, saying that the government will move quickly to establish Africa’s biggest gold mine and turn Ghana into a mining hub.

Additionally, he praised Goldfields’ social endeavours, highlighting their emphasis on sustainable livelihood projects and local content. Ag. Mr. Elliott Twum. The Ministry was reassured by Goldfields’ managing director that the company is dedicated to creating mining projects that benefit both the host communities and the country as a whole.

He emphasized their commitment to improving corporate supply chains, promoting local content, and making environmental and social interventions.

Mr. Twum stated that they were there to congratulate the Minister on his new position and to reiterate the mining industry’s dedication to helping him in his work.

Goldfields’ Vice President of External Affairs, Mr. Michael Edem Akafia, stressed that improved cooperation between the Ministry and the company would result in more long-lasting gains in local people’ standard of living.

He outlined a number of Goldfields’ recent social intervention projects, including as the oil palm farms, agribusiness ventures, and the Tarkwa-Damang highways.
