“Ghana’s democracy is suffering under the reign of NPP” – Hannah Bissiw

The National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) National Women Organizer, Dr. Hannah Louisa Bissiw-Kotey,has sent a strong message that the party would no longer put up with the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) purportedly evil actions.

She said that the days of confronting the NPP “with the Bible for the sake of peace” were over and that the NDC would not stand idly by in the face of provocations.

During a Tuesday, October 22, 2024, interview with Otafrigya Kwesi Appea-Apreku’s Ghana Yensom morning program on Accra 100.5 FM, Dr. Bissiw-Kotey said that the NPP had continuously abandoned the cause of peace in Ghana’s political scene.

Citing previous instances, including as those before the general elections in 2024, she asserted that the NPP took advantage of violence while anticipating the NDC would maintain its nonviolence.

“Ghana’s democracy is suffering under the reign of the NPP,” she asserted, emphasizing that the turning point came in 2024 when, according to her, the military unleashed terror on innocent voters during the elections.

Given its history of revolution, Dr. Bissiw-Kotey stated that the NDC will not be afraid to take a stance in upcoming elections.

She said that if NPP leaders’ demands for peace are not based on fairness, the party will not consider them.

Dr. Bissiw-Kotey stated, “There can be no peace without justice,” and forewarned that the NDC will not make concessions or put up with any behavior that jeopardizes equity in the approaching general elections.

She emphasized in her concluding remarks that the NDC would continue to be watchful and will oppose any efforts by the ruling party to influence the election or advance peace without tackling the fundamental problem of justice.
