
Ghana and Nigeria have taken a significant step towards enhancing regional digital security through bilateral cooperation.

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon Samuel Nartey George (MP), met with the Nigerian High Commissioner, Ambassador Ibok-Ete Ekwe Iban, on February 16, 2026, to address the rising incidents of cybercrime involving Nigerians in Ghana.

The meeting reviewed Ghana’s recent crackdown on cybercrime and explored ways to strengthen cooperation in tackling digital criminal activities.

Ambassador Ibok-Ete Ekwe Iban expressed concern over the arrests and pledged to address the root causes, emphasizing the need to protect law-abiding Nigerians and strengthen border security.

He highlighted the strong relationship between Ghana and Nigeria, urging Nigerians to be good ambassadors of their country.

The discussions underscored the commitment of both nations to combat cybercrime and promote a secure digital environment.

Minister George stressed the importance of closer collaboration to address cross-border cyber-related offenses and improve digital security.

This joint effort reflects a coordinated, multi-stakeholder approach to improving cybersecurity in the region, with institutions like the Blair Institute for Global Change, Accra Digital Centre, and GIZ Ghana supporting the discussions.
