Four Detainees Remanded Over Brutal Killing of Fellow Inmate in Twifo Praso Police Cells

The Twifo Praso District Court has remanded four detainees into police custody for two weeks for their alleged involvement in the brutal killing of a fellow inmate, George Anim, at the Twifo Praso Police cells.

The accused, John Nuamah, a miner, Issah Ahmed, a driver, Jonathan Appiah, a driver, and Michael Adakpagu, a mechanic, are facing charges of murder and conspiracy to commit a crime.

According to the prosecution, led by ASP Nana George Akomeah, the incident occurred on November 26, 2025, when George Anim, a 40-year-old man arrested for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl, was placed in a cell with 13 other inmates, including the four suspects.

A violent altercation erupted between Anim and the accused, leading to severe beatings that caused his death.

The court, presided over by His Worship Maxwell Foli Kpodo Esq., granted the police’s request for additional time to conclude investigations and await advice from the Attorney General’s Department.

The accused are expected to reappear in court on January 27, 2026.

The incident has sparked outrage, with family members of the deceased demanding justice for what they described as a preventable tragedy within police custody.

The case has also raised concerns about the safety and welfare of individuals in police custody.
