“For the peace in Dagbon, your name will forever be etched in our hearts” – Yaa Naa hails Akufo-Addo

The ruler of Dagbon Traditional Area has enthusiastically praised and applauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for overseeing the restoration and upkeep of the much-needed peace in Dagbon.

As part of a planned two-day trip to the Northern, North East, and Savanna regions, President Akufo-Addo visited the Yaa Naa at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, October 15, 2024.

The ruler of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari Andani II, expressed Dagbon’s appreciation to the President for swiftly yet diplomatically ending the long-running Dagbon conflict that had so far taken many lives. He also said that his name will live on in Dagbon and the nation’s history forever.

“Your decisive leadership in ending the protracted mediation process between Abudu and Andani families through the esteemed committee of eminent Chiefs which included His Majesty the Nayiri, His Majesty the Yagbonwura and His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is the masterstroke that paved the way for the performance of the funerals of our two deceased Yaa Naa.”

He also praised President Akufo-Addo’s ongoing assistance in ensuring the new Yaa Naa is installed and his ongoing direction in keeping Dagbon peaceful.

He went on to say that the customary gift of a bull and a hundred yam tubers is a material representation of the great regard and dignity that “I hold for you as friend and benefactor.”

The appointment of the first Finance Minister from the North was particularly noteworthy and showed President Akufo-Addo’s recognition of their potential commitment to inclusive leadership. He was also appreciative of the appointment of important individuals from the region to various leadership positions within the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.
