A Women Organizer Hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Amenfi East, Miss Olivia Mensah has appealed to stakeholders to join forces in empowering women to take up leadership roles in the region.
In a statement, Mensah emphasized the importance of leadership, describing it as “the courage to stand for the people and the humility to serve them.”

As a former Loyal Ladies Commander for Amenfi East (2020-2022) and current Western Regional Loyal Ladies Commander Treasurer, Mensah brings a wealth of experience to her role as Women Organizer.

Her appeal is part of the NPP’s efforts to promote women’s empowerment and participation in politics.
Ghana has made notable strides in advancing women’s leadership, with the appointment of the country’s first female Vice President in 2025 and the passage of the Affirmative Action Law, mandating a minimum of 40% female representation in public office appointments.
However, despite these gains, women remain underrepresented in leadership positions, particularly in local governance.
According to reports, only 15% of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) are females, and just 4% of elected Assembly Members are women.

Mensah’s call to action is echoed by experts who emphasize the importance of women’s leadership in driving development and promoting gender equality.
“Women have unique development needs that need to be addressed,” says Dr. Appiah, a lecturer at the University of Ghana. “The low representation of women in local governance is a threat to achieving key development needs and the SDGs.”
The NPP’s efforts to empower women are part of a broader movement to promote women’s leadership and participation in Ghanaian politics.
As Ghana continues to make progress in this area, stakeholders are urging women to take up leadership roles and contribute to the country’s development.
