The Electoral Commission (EC) is being urged by the campaign team of Chief of Agriculture Nzema, Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo, to declare their candidate the victor of the Ashanti Region’s Council of State election.
When a machomen unexpectedly showed up at the polling station and disrupted the voting by damaging ballot boxes and documents, the election of the region’s representative to the Council of State descended into chaos.
Speaking to the media about the election events at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the Nzema Chief’s campaign team expressed shock at the thugs’ behaviour and charged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with orchestrating the assault. Speaking to the media, Lord Innusah Lansah, the Tafo Pankrono municipality’s immediate municipal chief executive, asserted that his candidate, Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo, had won the poll and urged the EC to declare him the victor.
Approximately 86 persons were eligible to vote, and they all showed up to cast their ballots. After sorting, the counting process began, and Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo was on the 47th count when the NDC machomen marched and wrecked the entire process, tearing up the vote paper and damaging the ballot boxes,” he explained.
“The regulations stated that no one would be allowed entry to the property without accreditation. Machomen numbers was reduced to roughly 200 on the unaccredited premises, and it appeared as though the election was being held there.”
Additionally, it was these same individuals who threw the entire process into such tumultuous scenes. He went on to say, “These thugs stormed the premises to cause commotion in full view of the on-duty police after realizing that Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo had scored 47, which was enough to be declared the winner.”
We were surprised to see so many police officers on the area, but the thugs were able to defeat them and carry out their mission, as we saw during the general elections.
The campaign team, which includes a few assembly members, promised to make it challenging for President John Dramani’s choices for the various MMDAs.
I believe they have begun screening candidates for the position of Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCE’S), and they will visit us locally, Lansah said. Do you think we’ll sit down and verify your nominees if this easy exercise couldn’t be completed?
Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo would pay for the injured journalists’ medical expenses. According to Lord Innusah Lansah, Nana Nkansah Boadu has promised to get in touch with all of the journalists who were beaten and cover their medical expenses.
Five reporters who were documenting the event for their stories were severely battered and taken to the hospital.
