The CEO of Damak Sanitation, Mr. Daniel Akgri, has emphasized the need for a shift from rubber bags to sack bags to mitigate the devastating impact of plastic waste on the environment.

Speaking at the 10th Damak Sanitation Health Watch Community Heroes and Excellence Award, Mr. Akgri stressed that the continued use of rubber bags is causing irreparable harm to the environment and urged individuals and businesses to adopt eco-friendly alternatives.

“We need to take responsibility for our actions and make conscious choices to protect our environment,” Mr. Akgri said. “Sack bags are a viable alternative to rubber bags, and we must make the switch to safeguard our planet for future generations.”

The event, which brought together community leaders, environmentalists, and stakeholders, aimed to recognize and reward individuals and organizations working tirelessly to promote sanitation, health, and environmental sustainability in the community.
In his keynote address, Mr. Akgri highlighted the dangers of plastic waste, citing its impact on marine life, clogged drains, and the spread of diseases. He emphasized that the use of rubber bags was a major contributor to the problem and called on the community to join forces in promoting the use of sack bags.

“We have a collective responsibility to protect our environment,” Mr. Akgri said. “I urge all of us to make a conscious effort to use sack bags and encourage others to do the same. Together, we can make a difference.”
The event also featured presentations from community heroes who have made significant contributions to sanitation and environmental sustainability in the community. The winners of the Excellence Award were recognized for their outstanding efforts in promoting health and sanitation in their communities.
In attendance were representatives from government agencies, NGOs, and community-based organizations, who all echoed Mr. Akgri’s call for a shift to sack bags. The event ended with a renewed commitment to promote environmental sustainability and protect the community from the dangers of plastic waste.
