A heated exchange has erupted in the Ashanti Region, with Council of State Member, Hon. Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, coming to the defense of Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, against criticism from Sam Pyne.
In a strongly-worded statement, Hon. Obimpeh dismissed Pyne’s comments as “politically misguided” and accused him of trivializing the progress made by Dr. Amoakohene’s administration.

Hon. Obimpeh emphasized that Dr. Amoakohene’s leadership has brought about tangible results, citing the Aputuogya 24-hour market initiative, the Sewia Hospital and Afari Military Hospital projects, and the redevelopment of Krofrom Market, among others.
He also highlighted the Regional Minister’s innovative approach to governance, including the engagement of Senior High School students to paint and beautify major interchanges across the region at minimal cost to taxpayers.
“The people of Ashanti are discerning; they judge by achievements, not by rhetoric,” Hon. Obimpeh said, urging Pyne to focus on comparing records rather than engaging in insults.
He emphasized that leadership is not about expenditure, but about ingenuity and impact, and that Dr. Amoakohene’s administration has demonstrated a commitment to proactive, present, and purposeful leadership.
Hon. Obimpeh also took a swipe at Pyne’s own record as a former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) official, citing stalled projects and administrative inertia as evidence of a lack of progress. He urged Pyne to elevate the discourse and compete on impact, rather than resorting to personal attacks.
The statement has sparked a lively debate in the region, with many calling for a focus on development and progress rather than petty squabbles. As one observer noted, “The people of Ashanti deserve leadership rooted in delivery, unity, and progress, not derision.”
