The Mayor of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. Richard Ofori, has taken a bold step to address the issue of filth and sanitation in the city by personally leading a clean-up exercise in the Central Business District. The mayor expressed concern over the deplorable state of the environment, particularly the choked gutters, and lamented the lack of civic responsibility among residents and traders.

Mayor Ofori noted that despite efforts to clean the city, the environment quickly becomes dirty again, with traders and residents contributing to the problem.

“You’ll make the environment clean and safe later with few minutes both traders and residents will comeback and make the place dirty again,” he said, highlighting the need for a change in behavior.

The mayor’s actions are part of a broader initiative to promote environmental cleanliness and sanitation in Kumasi. The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has announced a city-wide clean-up exercise scheduled for today, November 1, 2025, urging residents, traders, and transport operators to participate actively in restoring cleanliness to the metropolis.
The clean-up exercise focused on key areas, including:
– Zoo Roundabout through Pampaso to Otumfuo Roundabout
– Otumfuo Roundabout through Acheamfour Market
– MTN Roundabout to St. Louis College
– Otumfuo Roundabout to Dr. Mensah
– Boss FM through Central Market
– Asafo Interchange and Asafo Market area
– Roman Hill Down through Abobo Station to Alabar
The mayor’s efforts aim to promote a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Kumasi.
