“Change, not interchanges, is what the 2024 election is about,” Mahama quips of Akufo-Addo

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for launching interchanges before the December 7 elections, even though he has accused him in the past of exploiting such infrastructure projects for political ends while in office. Mahama cited an NPP member Gabby Otchere-Darko’s 2016 social media post, in which he urged voters to priorities the economy over the building of interchanges, as a stark contrast to the policies of the current administration.

At the time, Otchere-Darko had maintained that the emphasis should be on solving economic issues rather than on building initiatives meant to win over politicians. Mahama’s comments followed President Akufo-Addo’s recent inauguration of a number of significant road projects, such as the Flowerpot Interchange and Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase II.

In the final days before the 2024 elections, these and other initiatives were started. Mahama voiced his dissatisfaction during his campaign stop in Bawaleshie, which was a part of the last leg of his Greater Accra trip. He said that the NPP’s earlier critiques of his administration regarding infrastructural development are now coming back to haunt them.

How accurate were his remarks from eight years ago? Therefore, don’t allow them to take your focus away. Change, not exchange, is the focus of this election.

Economic hardship and unemployment are the main issues in this election.

“This election concerns inept and dishonest leadership. The NPP government has obviously not improved Ghanaians’ quality of life. Voting for leaders is done so that they can better our lives. However, the NPP has regressed Ghana by ten years in just eight years,” he said.
