Bawumia Donates GH¢200,000 and 1,000 bags of cement to support Adum fire victims.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president, has provided 1,000 bags of cement and GH¢200,000 to traders affected by the recent devastating fire at Adum in Kumasi so they can rebuild their businesses.

The fire, which began on Friday, March 21, ripped through several shops and kiosks in the bustling business district, destroying items worth millions of Ghanaian cedis.

On Tuesday, March 25, Bawumia paid a visit to the location and expressed his sympathies to the affected traders.In addition, he called on private businesses and Ghanaians to aid in their rehabilitation.

NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as “Wontumi,” former Ashanti regional minister Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, MP for Subin Constituency Hon. Kofi Obiri Yeboah, former MP for Nhyiaeso Hon. Kennedy Kankam, and others accompanied him to the area.

“I am donating GH¢200,000 and 1,000 bags to the victims, and I urge private individuals to also support the traders in getting their livelihoods back,” he said.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Bawumia said that the scene was heartbreaking and that “observing the extent of destruction has given him sleepless nights.”

He stressed the need for relief immediately and called on the authorities to do everything in their power to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This assistance is really a little step towards your recovery. “I’ll be there for you in any way I can,” he continued.

The cement and financial support will be essential in allowing them to start over, several dealers expressed their gratitude for the generous gesture.

“Even though we have lost everything, this gesture gives us hope,” one affected store owner remarked.

The community is hopeful that while investigations continue to determine the fire’s origin, long-term precautions will be implemented to safeguard their livelihoods from similar calamities.
