In an audacious move to revitalise the once-thriving Kumawood film industry, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, established a ministerial committee to create a strategic plan for its resuscitation. In a high-level meeting with Ashanti Region producers and directors today, Dr. Amoakohene highlighted the vital role Kumawood has played in Ghanaian storytelling, entertainment, and culture, and he said it’s time to realise its full potential.
“Kumawood deserves more attention as an industry that has influenced Ghana’s creative arts sector and given thousands of people jobs. “The goals of this initiative are to ensure greater national and international recognition, create more job opportunities, and revitalise the industry,” he said.
The blueprint for a more robust Kumawood To solve the major issues facing the business, the recently established committee will collaborate closely with actors, producers, directors, scriptwriters, and other industry stakeholders. Among the crucial areas of attention will be: Funding and Investment: Getting money to increase the production of films.
Enhancing industry participants’ abilities through training and capacity building.
Infrastructure Development: Modernizing technology and studios to satisfy international standards.
Market Expansion: Investigating foreign distribution avenues for Ghanaian motion pictures. Industry participants have applauded the minister’s participation and expressed hope that Kumawood can restore its former prominence and emerge as a significant force in African cinema once more with the correct policy guidance and government support.
For many years, filmmakers have pushed for improved financing options, structural changes, and updated production methods in order to stay up with the rapidly changing global film industry.
It is anticipated that this redoubled government backing will revitalise Kumawood, provide emerging artists more chances, and increase Ghana’s cinematic cultural influence.
A stronger and more sustainable Kumawood industry is what Dr. Amoakohene promised to achieve by working closely with all stakeholders.
“We will establish Kumawood as a cultural and economic powerhouse through our combined efforts, and the future of our local film industry is bright,” he promised.
With this endeavour, Ghanaian film is embarking on a new chapter. It is hoped that Kumawood’s distinctive storytelling and rich cultural storylines would once again enthral audiences both domestically and beyond.
