As Ghana’s first female vice president, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang took the oath of office.

On January 7, 2025, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang was sworn in as Ghana’s vice president, formally taking over the position.

Her Ladyship Gertrude Torkornoo, Chief Justice, administered the oath of office during the ceremony, which was held in Accra’s famous Independence Square.

As Ghana’s first female vice president, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s running mate in the general elections of 2024.

In order to regain the president for a second time, Mahama defeated Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), handily.

With her vast background in education and government, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is well-positioned to provide new insights to national policies, making her swearing-in a momentous occasion in Ghana’s political history.

It is anticipated that her leadership will be crucial in furthering youth empowerment, education reform, and gender equality across the nation.
