President John Mahama has called on African countries to realign themselves in order to fully benefit from the changing geopolitical and economic landscapes of the world.
The President emphasized the need for Africa to shift from a primarily commercial mindset to a more industrial and entrepreneurial approach during his remarks at the 2025 edition of the Kwahu Business Forum on Friday, April 19.
According to him, the continent has continuously lost out on the economic advantages of significant world shifts, such as the Cold War and the era of globalisation, but it now has a new chance to profit from the ongoing geopolitical reconfigurations, such as the escalating trade disputes between the world’s leading economies.
โThe world is changing and new opportunities are being thrown up, and we as a country must take advantage of those opportunities,โ Mr Mahama said.
In order for Africa to break free from its historically passive economic role, he cited the current trade disputes between economic superpowers as the cause of “global shifts in terms of production.”
With a dramatic shift towards manufacturing, industrialisation, digital entrepreneurship, and agribusiness, the President stated, “Africa must shake itself out of the mindset that we are only traders.” “We can be anything we want to be.”
According to the President, political and economic conflicts make the world more uncertain, which facilitates the assertion of long-marginalized countries like Africa.
A number of gatherings, like the Kwahu Business Forum, bring together investors, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to talk about creative approaches to private sector empowerment and economic growth in Ghana and throughout the continent.
