The National Democratic Congress’s national chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has referred to the Ashanti region as a lavish shrine for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), where the ruling party only starts ostentatious construction projects in the run-up to elections.
Speaking on the third day of his retail campaign in Achiase, in the Ashanti region’s Atwima Mponua constituency, he urged the Ashanti people to show the NPP that the area is not their shrine and accused them of ignoring the region’s critical needs until election season, when a flurry of projects is started to garner votes without consistent dedication.
He added that the Nana Addo-led NPP government claims to have built more roads than any other government, highlighting that they have built 12,000 kilometres of roads throughout Ghana, but that most communities, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where the NPP receives the majority of its votes, lack access to a road network.
He urged Ashanti residents to demand the roads that the NPP boasts about.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia pointed out that despite eight years of this government’s many promises, the road that leads to Achiaase and the surrounding area was granted for contract under the NDC government when they constructed the E- Block at Adoebawura.
The Gyaasehene of the Achiase traditional council, Nana Kofi Apraku, stated that they should not be excluded from development once the NDC wins the general elections in 2024. “The New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is in power, has neglected our roads for years, which makes it difficult for residents of this community and the surrounding communities to travel,” he stated.
In addition, Nana Kofi Apraku begged the chairman of the Achiase traditional council, the Gyaasehene, that they should not be shut out of progress once the NDC wins the general elections in 2024.
“The New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is in power, has neglected our roads for years, which makes it difficult for residents of this community and the surrounding communities to travel,” he said.
