
The Paramount Queen Mother of Goaso, Nana Afia Serwaa I, has expressed concern over a growing trend among female nursing students in Goaso engaging in relationships with commercial tricycle ‘pragia’ riders in exchange for free transportation.
Speaking at the Asanteman Nkosuo Honorary Awards 2026 in Kumasi, Nana Afia Serwaa I urged young women to prioritize their education and skills development over such relationships, warning that they could lead to teenage pregnancy and negatively impact their academic pursuits.
According to the Queen Mother, many of the students are prioritizing these relationships over their education, Often for as little as GH¢2 transport fares.
She emphasized that she has consistently advised the students to focus on their education, which will secure a better future, rather than engaging in unnecessary relationships.
Nana Afia Serwaa I has taken steps to address the issue, working to find employment opportunities for unemployed youth in Goaso to keep them engaged and productive.
Her efforts are part of a broader initiative to promote values that drive success and community development among young people in the region.
The Asanteman Nkosuo Honorary Awards 2026 recognized individuals contributing to development within Asanteman, with speakers using the platform to engage the youth on values promoting success and community development.
