Government Commits GH¢20m to Boost Ghana’s Film Industry

The National Film Industry is set to receive a significant boost with the government’s commitment of GH¢20 million to the Film Development Fund, expected to become operational in the second quarter of 2026.

 

The Deputy CEO of the National Film Industry, James Gardiner announced this at the Filmmakers Summit held as part of the Ashanti Festival ’26.

He described the fund as a strategic tool to stimulate growth across the film value chain, focusing on production, and prioritizing capacity building, distribution, and market access.

“The initiative marks a significant step toward repositioning Ghana’s film industry and unlocking its full economic and creative potential,” Gardiner stated.

He emphasized that the fund will support production and enhance distribution and market access, making Ghanaian films more competitive globally.

The Filmmakers Summit brought together industry stakeholders to discuss strategies for growth and development, highlighting the government’s commitment to creating a thriving film ecosystem in Ghana.
