Residents of Kwadaso Ohwimase in the Kwadaso Municipal are sounding the alarm over an old refuse dump that’s posing serious health risks to the community.
The dump, located near food joints and drinking spots, is feared to be contaminating the air and causing airborne diseases that affect both adults and children.
The residents are appealing to the authorities to clear the dump, citing concerns over the health implications of prolonged exposure to the pollutants. Hon. Isaac Owusu, Assembly member for the area, has backed the plea, stating that efforts to get attention from the assembly have failed.

According to research, improper waste disposal can lead to air and water pollution, breeding of disease vectors, and overall environmental degradation. In Ghana, studies have shown that communities living near waste dumps are more likely to experience respiratory illnesses, skin diseases, and other health issues.

The situation in Kwadaso Ohwimase highlights the need for urgent action to address the issue of waste management in Ghana.

The government and relevant authorities must take immediate steps to clear the dump and implement sustainable waste management practices to protect the health and wellbeing of residents.
