Ghana Immigration Service Nets 11 Foreign Nationals in Cyber Fraud Bust

The Ghana Immigration Service’s (GIS) Weija Sector Command has arrested 11 foreign nationals for their alleged involvement in cyber fraud and counterfeit money printing at a domestic apartment in Tuba, Accra.

According to a press statement dated January 7, the suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Anti-Human Trafficking and Cyber Fraud Taskforce Unit of the Weija Sector Command on January 5.

The operation yielded several incriminating items, including laptops, routers, mobile phones, fake dollar notes, and tabletop printers/photocopier machines.

The suspects are currently in custody pending further investigations.

The GIS has thanked the public for their support and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities by foreigners in their areas to law enforcement.

The Service also cautioned landlords and property owners to exercise due diligence when renting out their properties to foreign nationals, warning that harbouring illegal immigrants is an offence under section 52(1)(b) of the Immigration Act 2000 Act 573.

“The Comptroller General of Immigration and Management of the Service remain committed to protecting the territorial integrity of the country and ensuring compliance with Immigration Laws at all times,” the statement added.
