The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly has declared a renewed crackdown on growing indiscipline in the municipality’s physical and spatial planning space.

Authorities have warned that firm action will be taken against individuals who indiscriminately put up structures in unauthorized areas, particularly along waterways.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ben Abdallah Alhassan, cautioned residents to immediately halt such developments or face strict sanctions, including demolition of affected structures. He emphasized that clear guidelines exist in Ghana’s laws on land acquisition and structure development, and these procedures must be strictly adhered to.

Speaking to the media, MCE Alhassan explained that the Assembly has embarked on demolition exercises to sanitize the municipality and deter others from building in unauthorized locations.

He urged residents to consult the Assembly for guidance on land acquisition and development permits, stressing that the Technical Subcommittee reviews applications and makes recommendations to the Spatial Planning Committee.
Beyond spatial planning challenges, sanitation remains a major issue, with communities grappling with choked drains filled with plastic waste. The Assembly has prosecuted 21 sanitation-related cases in 2025 and is adopting a dual approach of public education and strict enforcement of sanitation by-laws.

“Gradually, we are getting the buy-in of the people,” MCE Alhassan said. “Antime we go out to conduct sanitation exercises, there is a strong outpouring of support.” The Assembly is intensifying engagements with religious and traditional leaders to promote responsible behavior among residents.
The crackdown aims to ensure discipline and order in spatial planning and sanitation, with the Assembly committed to enforcing regulations and promoting public health standards. Residents are urged to support the efforts and comply with regulations to create a cleaner and more organized municipality.
