The 68th Telecel Asantehene Open Golf Championship begins magnificently.

The Royal Golf Club in Kumasi hosted the formal opening of the 68th edition of the Telecel Asantehene Open Golf Championship on June 13, 2025. As the event got underway, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, graced the ceremony by teeding off. Golf fans, well-known corporate executives, and traditional leaders came together for this esteemed occasion.

Notable people attended the ceremony, including Patricia Obo-Nai, CEO of Telecel Ghana; Kwesi Atta Antwi, Chairman of the Royal Golf Club; and Sir Sam Jonah, a well-known Ghanaian businessman. The presence of Royal Golf Club members further highlighted the event’s importance.

For the seventh year in a row, Telecel Ghana has sponsored the Asantehene Open Golf Championship, demonstrating their unwavering support for the event. Promoting golf in Ghana and creating a sense of community among golfers have been greatly aided by the collaboration between Telecel Ghana and the Royal Golf Club. The 16th Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has been a cornerstone of Ghana’s economic growth and peace.

He has been acknowledged for his peace endeavours and has been instrumental in settling disputes, most notably the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute. Ghana’s economic progress has also been greatly impacted by the Asantehene’s leadership, since his efforts helped the country leave the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) program.

Telecel Ghana has been a regular sponsor of the Asantehene Open Golf Championship, and they are doing so for the eighth year in a row this year.

The Royal Golf Club and Telecel Ghana’s collaboration has been crucial in advancing golf in Ghana and creating a feeling of camaraderie among golfers.
