A group of influential Kumawood industry participants has presented a thorough report to Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, in a major move to revive Ghana’s booming film industry.
The paper, which is the result of a strategic brainstorming session that took place in March, provides practical strategies for bringing Kumawood back to its previous status as a shining example of Ghanaian storytelling.
An important step in the effort to revitalise Kumawood was the brainstorming workshop, which brought together seasoned filmmakers, producers, actors, and cultural champions. The preservation of indigenous storytelling, digital transformation, financial restructuring, and community participation are highlighted in the report as the main pillars of the revitalisation strategy. These strategic focus areas are intended to guarantee the industry’s long-term viability in addition to revitalising it.
Dr. Amoakohene, who received the paper, praised the team for their hard work and vision, emphasizing the important that Kumawood played in the recent Ashanti Festival.
Beyond the screen, Kumawood’s tremendous significance was demonstrated by the creatives in the industry who donated their skills and presence to promote local culture and tourism. Dr. Amoakohene also commended their recent initiatives to help elderly, legendary performers and actresses, saying that these initiatives are “reviving the love for Kumawood” throughout Ghana.
Regarding President John Dramani Mahama’s recent mention of Kumawood in his remarks at the launch of Black Star Experience, the Regional Minister provided clarification.
Highlighting Kumawood’s lasting impact, the President recognized the cultural and economic contributions the industry makes to the country.
This national recognition is a call to action for stakeholders to innovate and work together, as well as a tribute to Kumawood’s influence, according to Dr. Amoakohene.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Amoakohene promised to promote the Kumawood business no matter what and to help creative professionals, private investors, and the government form collaborations.
These collaborations will be essential to guaranteeing the revival’s long-term viability. Dr. Amoakohene insisted, “This is about preserving our heritage, empowering our youth, and telling our stories the Ghanaian way; it’s not just about reviving an industry.”
The future is bright for Kumawood as it enters a new period of importance and international recognition thanks to revitalized energy, political goodwill, and a shared goal.
A new chapter in the industry’s history, marked by cooperation, creativity, and a strong dedication to conserving Ghanaian culture and storytelling, has begun with the filing of the report. Kumawood is well-positioned to once again emerge as a significant force in Ghana’s creative sector as it sets off on this exciting new journey, inspiring viewers both domestically and internationally.
