Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised that the next NDC administration will bring legal action against everyone involved in the controversial National Cathedral project.
During a campaign trip in Kaase, in the Ashanti Region’s Asokwa Constituency, Mr. Nketia reiterated his party’s resolve to hold accountable anyone involved in the project’s purported corruption and abuse of power.
He made these remarks in response to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice’s (CHRAJ) recommendation that the project undergo a forensic audit and that its trustees face legal action.
Significant concerns about money mismanagement and power abuse by several project participants were found during CHRAJ’s inquiry.
In his statement, Asiedu Nketia said that an NDC-led government would not pursue the National Cathedral project, which he described as an example of mismanagement and misplaced goals under the current NPP administration.
“If we win in the December elections, we will ensure that those responsible for the financial mismanagement or abuse of power in the National Cathedral project are held accountable and face consequences,” he stated.
The chairman of the NDC reaffirmed his party’s commitment to transparency, responsible governance, and the wise use of public finances in order to save the country’s financial stability and restore trust in national institutions.
